After leaving Hoover Dam I picked up a friend at the Vegas airport, and we headed over to California through Death Valley National Park. As much as I really wanted to melt and die in extreme heat, I opted not to undertake any major hikes in the park. The day I drove through it was 113 degrees… at 9:00am.
Death Valley is home to the lowest point below sea level in the entire US, and does actually have some pretty amazing features, although most of them seem to be most photogenic at sunrise and sunset. I wouldn’t say this should be on top of your to-do list, but if you’re in the area it is definitely worth a look or a drive through.
