Old Faithful & Grand Canyon of Yellowstone – Yellowstone National Park

Today was my first full day in the park, so I was out the door by 6:30am, and reached Old Faithful by about 7:15. Thankfully I was one of only a handful of people there at the time, so I had a front row seat. When I drove by the parking lot about 2 hours later, it was ridiculously packed with even more people hiking into the area from God knows where.

Old Faithful itself wouldn’t be a bad geyser to see if it weren’t the ‘main attraction’ that Yellowstone is known for. I just felt very underwhelmed after it had erupted.  While I envisioned a violent eruption of acidic water that flies all over the crowds as they chaotically run for their lives, it was more along the lines of water you can barely see through the steam shooting 300ft into the air for 5 minutes. Oh well, at least I can say I’ve seen it now, right? I have a video that I’ll post later, it’s just far too big to upload on this shitty motel wifi.

Sticking to the script of hitting the main attractions early to avoid the assclowns, I headed out to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone next. Unfortunately it was a stretch from Old Faithful, and by the time I made it out there the crowds had already started forming. Fortunately a lot of the early risers were the elderly, so I was able to quickly wade through them without having to stab anyone.

The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone was truly amazing, and by far the most beautiful area of the park up to this point. There are several different vantage points from which you can view the falls, and I highly suggest to anyone that visits that they hit them all. The canyon that surrounds the massive waterfall is just stunning. I wasn’t able to complete the North Rim Inspiration Point because another hiker said he saw a rattlesnake at the bottom, and I instantly became terrified and turned around… but was really manly in doing so.

I visited several other areas of the park today, but there are way too many pictures for one post, so those will have to come later.
